There lived in Nepal a person named Prashanta. Prashanta was very skilled in computers and made a lot of useful software that he used to give to his co-workers for free. His co-workers recognized his skill and used to praise him very highly, but Prashanta never seemed to be affected by their praise and would continue his simple ways.

One day there was a crisis in the IT department. They desperately needed a software for extracting images from their old database and inserting into the new one. All of them suggested Prashanta to make it and he calmly agreed and set about making it. The finished product was very professional looking and worked wonderfully.

Everyone was pleased with the software and highly praised Prashanta, but he remained unaffected by their praise and would calmly thank them. Seeing his nonchalance a friend asked him how he could be so calm and unaffected when even the CEO himself was very pleased and excited about the software. “Don’t you feel proud to have created such a fine piece of software?”, asked his friend.

To his query Prashanta replied, “I am not the doer, I am simply the medium.”

It was almost exactly one year ago that Google released the first dev build of Chrome for Mac and Linux. At the time, even though they released it, they didn’t really want you to use it. It simply wasn’t stable. Now it is. And as such, it’s finally being formally released.
Google announced today that Chrome for Mac and Linux has caught up with the stable (and older) Windows build of the browser. As such, they’re ready to take both builds out of beta for the first time. And these new stable releases come with new features such as more advanced syncing (bookmarks, preferences, settings, etc). And it’s full of HTML5 tools like Geolocation APIs, App Cache, and web sockets. And access to the over 4,500 Chrome extensions.
One thing not included in these new stable release is the new built-in Flash Player. Google actually had to remove that from the dev channel recently because it was causing issues [see: update]. Google promises that the integration will be ready by the time the final version of Flash 10.1 is released.

Update: Adobe wrote to us to clarify why Flash wasn’t included in the stable build:
“Google locked down Chrome without the beta version of Flash Player 10.1 built-in since the plug-in is still in beta when Chrome 5.0 ships. Once we finalize Flash Player 10.1, it will be reintegrated into Chrome.”

7. For the rest of Metro Manila (Caloocan, Mandaluyong, Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, parts of Pasay, Pateros, Quezon City, Taguig, and Valenzuela) number coding is in effect (window hours of 10am-3pm is also observed).

TOOLS AGAINST MMDA OFFICERS

I just reached my limit last weekend, and decided to take action against the abusive MMDA enforcers. I basically
called up the MMDA head office and inquired from the Personnel Officer, Antonio Pagulayan, to clarify their
policies. Here is what I got.

If any of these abuses seem familiar to you, Mr. Antonio Pagulayan (Personnel Officer) has asked that you call either the MMDA hotline (136) or call the METRO BASE at 0920 9389861 or 0920 9389875 and ask for an
Inspectorate. They will send inspectors to the place where these MMDA officers are extorting, even while you are
arguing out of your apprehension.

1.MMDA officers are not allowed to group together in order to apprehend.
They are not even allowed to stand together in groups of 2 or more. The only time they are allowed to work
together is for special operations (probably when they apprehend groups of buses for smoke belching)

2. Swerving IS NOT a traffic violation. Moving one lane to the left or right is not swerving, no matter where on
the road you do it. And it is even less of a violation when you do it with a signal. Swerving is defined as
shifting 2 or more lanes very quickly. So you can argue your way out of this, and call the Metro Base for help.

3. Sadly, using the yellow lane is a traffic violation and will get you a ticket. However, buses are really not
allowed to go out of the yellow lane, so if you see selective apprehension of private cars only, you may complain.

4. MMDA has confirmed that your license MAY NOT BE CONFISCATED at a traffic apprehension. The only time they can do so is if you are part of an accident, or it is your third violation and you have not settled your fines yet. They
are only allowed to give you a ticket, which you can contest. He recommends actually receiving the ticket in some
instances, so that you can report the officer who did it.

5. Also, you are free to ask any of these officers for their “mission order”, which is written by their supervisor.
If they apprehend you for a violation that is not in their mission order for the day, you can report them and they
will receive disciplinary action.

Admittedly, we’ve done our part and came up until Local Finals. Team have just cut short for a ticket to Eygpt. Only a strand of a hair behind our arch rival Ateneo, but our campaign for excellence doesn’t end, next generation of talented Benildeans makes its way to the World Finals this 2010 in Poland.
